About Oris:
Since 1904, Oris watches have pursued the goal of Swiss Made quality excellence under continuous improvement at the highest levels.
Oris celebrates the 120th anniversary of its independence as a watchmaker. “The pleasure of independence is that we are free to do what we believe is right and what our customers want.”
Paul Cattin and Georges Christian founded Oris in the Swiss town of Hölstein (1 June 1904). Oris is celebrating its independence as a watchmaker this year. GO YOUR OWN WAY. Independence is in its DNA and it allows it to do the right thing, such as being climate-neutral, creating and perfecting its movements, creating positively for the future.
The company opens an assembly plant and a second factory in the nearby town of Holderbank (1906).
The success of Oris allows several factories to be opened in different cities, until 1929. After the death of Georges Christian, Oscar Herzog (his brother-in-law) becomes managing director. Oris opened its own dial factory in Biel/Bienne, where it produced its own escapements.
In 1938, Oris produced its first pilot's watch with a Pointer Calendar function: the Big Crown.
Since 1945, Oris has received more than 200 awards for precision. In 1952, it launched its first automatic watch with a high-precision power reserve indicator (Calibre 601). In 1966, it introduced its own developments; in 1970, Oris became part of the ASUAG group, and in 1982, Portmann and Herzog led the management takeover and formed Oris SA, an independent and free-standing company.
Oris abandoned quartz and produced exclusively mechanical watches. In the 1990s, it coined its motto “High Mech” (High Mechanics): quality and integrity of its Swiss-made mechanical movements, which in 2002 will be reflected in the Red Rotor as the Oris trademark.
Its calibres, designs and advances are refined in detail in a philosophy of improvement and bringing the principles of luxury closer to today's global citizen: Calibre 400 for example, with a five-day power reserve and 10-year warranty. Oris continues to develop in this way in each of its many collections.
Oris is involved in multiple projects that you can check out at MyOris and Oris Social Club. Keep up to date with Oris at: MyOris, Oris Social Club, Changes For The Better Days, Oris Local Heroes). Keep Making People Smile
