Since 1904, Oris watches have followed the goal of excellence in Swiss Made quality under continuous improvement at the highest levels.
Paul Cattin and Georges Christian founded Oris in the Swiss city of Hölstein (June 1, 1904).
The company opens an assembly plant and a second factory in the nearby town of Holderbank (1906).
The success of Oris allowed several factories to be opened in different cities, until 1929. After the death of Georges Christian, Oscar Herzog (his brother-in-law), became general director. Oris opens its own dial factory in Biel/Bienne, and produces its own escapements there.
In 1938, Oris produced its first pilot's watch with a Pointer Calendar function, the Big Crown.
Since 1945, Oris has received more than 200 precision awards. In 1952, it launched its first automatic watch with a high-precision power reserve indicator (Caliber 601). In 1966 he introduced his advances; In 1970 Oris joined the ASUAG group, and in 1982 Portmann and Herzog led the management acquisition and established Oris SA, an independent and free company.
Oris abandons quartz and exclusively produces mechanical watches. In the 90s, it coined its motto “High Mech”: quality and integrity of its Swiss-made mechanical movements that in 2002 will be reflected with the Red Rotor as a registered Oris trademark.
