About the SEIKO PROSPEX SLA051J1 Modern Reinterpretation of Naomi Uemura's Diver's 1970
In 2021 is the 80th anniversary of Naomi Uemura's birth, and Seiko offers us the SLA051J1 as a modern reinterpretation of this respected dive watch that Japanese adventurer Naomi Uemura wore from 1974 to 1976. This seiko SLA051J1 is the gray dial version of pattern textured in a carbon gray like the original 1970. It presents, of course, improvements in the polishing and a greater hardness of its case, double curvature of the sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inside that guarantees a high readability from all views and an improved water resistance to 200 meters.
Movement of caliber 8L35 designed especially for diving watches by the watchmakers of the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in northern Japan.
About Seiko:
Follow your dreams and keep moving ahead is the philosophy of Seiko's founder: Kintaro Hattori.
Fascinated with Swiss watchmaking, he dreams of being a high-end watchmaker and at just 18 years old creates a watch repair shop in his own home in Kyobashi (Ginza district). Four years later he founded the company K Hattori for repairs and sale of second-hand watches. In 1892, he created the firm Seikosha ("house of precision") manufacturing his own wall clocks and created the first pocket watch, called "Time Keeper" in 1895 or the first Japanese-made alarm clock. In 1913 he created the first wristwatch called "Laurel". His dream of being a true watchmaker is a reality. But the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 destroyed everything. Time doesn't stop, it advances. Hattori started all over again, a year later he was remaking his wristwatch this time under the Seiko brand. He rebuilt the tower clock in Ginza, in 1932 symbolizing the rebirth of Seiko and Tokyo's own city.
Keep moving forward, step by step. Seiko has evolved into technology and the science applied to watchmaking. In 1969, Astron was the first quartz watch. In the 1970s, Seiko is looking for alternatives to quartz with solar technology and later will be the kinetic watch, direct drive movement, chronograph, perpetual calendar, GMT, Astron GPS Solar (2012), Diver's watches and their diving watches. In the late 1990s, they created the Grand Seiko collection with large mechanical calibers such as the 9S and soon after perfection with the Spring Drive system coupled with all these advances and more.
"Be always one step ahead of others" Kintaro Hattori, founder of Seiko.
