About the Oris Aquis watch
This Oris watch is from the Aquis collection by Oris, a collection that belongs to diving watches in the real world, combining design, high-performance materials and functions suitable for their purposes, all of them with an automatic movement with a production by by Oris.
The Aquis Date watch is designed to serve Oris' high-performance professional divers by turning this watch into a highly technical tool, with an Oris-patented Rotation Security System (RSS) that adjusts and locks the one-dimensional rotating bezel.
About Oris:
Since 1904 the Oris house has made an effort to manufacture durable watches that provide a whole life of pleasure to their owners. The quality of Swiss Made (manufactured in Switzerland) is a guarantee of quality and a symbol of excellence in the production processes of Oris watches, manufactured in Switzerland and controlled to the highest levels throughout the process.
Paul Cattin and Georges Christian, watchmakers from Le Locle, found Oris in the Swiss city of Hölstein (1 June 1904). They buy the recently closed Lohner &Co factory and name the new company After Oris, inspired by a nearby stream and valley.
The company opened an assembly plant and a second factory in the nearby town of Holderbank (1906).
The success of Oris continues and expands Oris extends until 1929 the factories of Hölstein (1904), Holderbank (1906), Como (1908), Courgenay (1916), Herbetswil (1925) and Ziefen (1925). After the death of Georges Christian, Oscar Herzog, his brother-in-law, becomes general manager. With the "Watch Statute" of March 12, 1934 in Switzerland, watchmaking companies are prohibited from introducing new technologies without permission. Oris opens its own dial factory in Biel/Bienne, where it produces its own watch escapements thanks to highly skilled watchmakers and offering equal opportunities to both men and women.
In 1938, Oris produced its first watch for pilots and a Pointer Calendar function, the Big Crown.
Since 1945, Oris has received more than 200 awards for accuracy. In 1952, Oris launches its first automatic watch with power reserve indicator, the high-precision Oris Caliber 601. In 1966, the lawyer Dr. Rolf Portman succeeds in having the "Watch Statute" arogated and Oris is free to introduce its advances; freedom that it will lose again in 1970 by joining the ASUAG group and living fully the Quartz Crisis, until 1982 Portmann and Herzog lead the management acquisition and this constitute Oris SA, becoming an independent and free company. Oris abandons quartz and produce solely mechanical pieces. In the 90s, the company coins its "High Mech" slogan to communicate the quality and integrity of its Swiss Made mechanical movements and in 2002, the Red Rotor becomes a registered trademark of Oris. Its calibers, designs and advancements are perfected, as with the automatic Calibre 400, its exceptional levels of anti-magnetism, its five-day power reserve and its 10-year warranty. Oris continues to have developed multiple collections of watches, among which we currently find:
- Oris Culture: Artelier and Classic
- Oris Diving: ProDiver – Aquis – Sixty-Five
- Oris Aviation: Big Crown ProPilot – Big Crown – Big Crown ProPilot X
- Oris Motor Sport: Artix GT – Cronoris
